Beginning Tai Chi Chuan Workshop

yin_yang.jpg The Beginner’s Tai-Chi Chuan Workshop will introduce the world of health, fitness, mental focus and spirituality as expressed through the gentle martial art discipline: Tai Chi Chuan!

In the workshop students will learn basic tai-chi postures and movement, breathing exercises and mind concentration techniques.  Every student will leave with exercises they can practice on their own to increase health, longevity and clarity of mind.

Tai Chi Chuan is considered an internal martial because although each posture takes on an exterior physical movement the focus is on becoming in touch with our inner body and the subtle energy termed (chi) by the Chinese. Tai Chi Chuan is distinctly a moving meditation.  The varying elements will be discussed and students will have an opportunity to learn what is called the form in future classes depending upon interest.

Each student will leave with a basic description and handout defining Tai Chi and its postures.  Because it is a martial art some basic applications will be reviewed. Tai-Chi Chuan can be practice by young and old alike.

The instructor Ark (Act with Random Kindness) has been a student of the martial arts for over fifteen years.  He has studied Tai Chi since 1993; first with Professor Wang from Beijing, China and then with Dr Semmes, who instructed him privately after three years of inquiry and petition.  It took nearly as long for Arkles to be accepted under the tutelage of Sifu Gillespie.  Arkles is also experienced in the art of Acupressure and deep tissue massage in addition to long distance Chi Gong massage and Reiki.
