Yoga for Peace

108 Sun Salutations
Saturday September 18, 2010
12:00-2:00pm
12:00-2:00pm
in Lafayette Square Park along with the Urban Health Fair & Market
This year marks the fourth annual Global Mala-Yoga for Peace event in St. Louis. On Saturday, September 18th, St. Louis yogins new and old will join others around the world to practice 108 sun salutations in unison with the intention of generating world peace. This year, the Global Mala-Yoga for Peace event will be held in Lafayette Square Park (previously held in Tower Grove Park), in conjunction with the Urban Health Fair and Market.
Unite with your community as you challenge your mind and body with this sacred moving meditation. Led by some of St. Louis' most sought after instructors, this yoga practice is sure to move you toward a state of inner peace; and through our collective efforts of peace, we can truly affect change in our community and beyond. Brad Smith and Mike Webb will lead opening chants; Adam Rugo and friends will set the pace with live drumming; and Audra Angelique and Todd Mosby will enchant us with a musical performance. A suggested cash donation of $20 will support the production of the event, with additional proceeds benefitting City Seeds Urban Farm, a joint project of Gateway Greening and St. Patrick Center which provides job training and therapeutic horticulture for individuals dealing with or at risk of homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, and recidivism and increases access of locally grown produce to the St. Louis community.
On September 18th, Global Mala-Yoga for Peace registration begins at 11am, and the event begins at 12 noon. A demonstration and clear explanation of the poses and modifications within the sun salutation will be offered at 11:45am, encouraging even those new o yoga to experience the bliss that comes from connection to self and others.

What You Should Know
Please understand that the Yoga Mala is a physically challenging practice. Everyone is welcome to participate, but you must know your limitations and take responsibility for your own well-being. Please stop and rest when necessary. You should not do anything that is more than you can handle. You are welcome to sit in silent meditation, do chair yoga, or even just watch. Your presence at the event is in itself a wonderful demonstration of support for the cause.
